This exhaust shield is designed to protect the centerstand and exhaust collector when you use your GS for when the pavement ends and turns to loose gravel, or on a sweet fire road in the back country. Under these conditions, severe under carriage damage can occur from stones and debris thrown up by the front tire if you are not protected.
It makes a nice added touch and shows you don't stick to the beaten path.
