BMW S1000RR Motorcycle Accessories
BMW Motorrad Motorsport is now venturing for this time into what is surely one of the most popular events in the world of motor racing. Even if we have displayed spectacular performance in Moto GP brand cups and enjoyed considerable success for BMW with the G 450 X in the enduro sector, this still represents a forward-looking step towards the future. After all, we are now entering into direct competition with extraordinary motor racing legends, such as Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha and since recently, also Aprilia, who has now rejoined the race. This means that the Superbike World Championships represent a real challenge for us, a challenge that we are happy to take on.
Superbikes are designed to be close to the serial models, and must be available to buy. The winner in the end is not the one who invests the most, but the one who places reliable engineering and fast riders atop a close-to-serial bike, who are able to fight their way to success throughout the season. This is what makes the World Superbike Championships one of the most up-close events, with up to 30 bikes on the starting line, of whom 10-15 could easily fight their way through to victory. On the other hand, the number of bikes found entering the Moto GP – often works prototypes that have nothing in common with serial models, least of all the price – has shrunk to as low as 15-18, and it is unfortunately the case that many races have become a bit boring as a result.
Perhaps this is the reason why the WSBK is able to attract more and more viewers to the TV screen and even to the side of the track, because this is where the bikes really rock – bikes of the kind that you yourself might have in your garage. This means that each is a star in its own right.
Of course, in a highly professional world championship series like the WSBK, everyone wants to win. BMW Motorrad Motorsport is equipping itself accordingly, and in Alpha Racing, it has found a partner with a history of success going back many years in national and international motorcycle sport. Only recently, the Alpha-Racing Team moved into highly modern premises in Stephankirchen, east of Munich, and strengthened its team with the addition of recognised specialists, to bring the development work of the BMW S 1000 RR to a successful conclusion. Yet we are realistic enough to expect to gain a lot of valuable experience and a few respectful successes in 2009, our first season in the WBSK. The Japanese and Italian competition has built up a rich font of experience over the course of its many years in the WBSK circus. But we will learn quickly from the experience we make, and improve continually from one tenth to the next, as we move the BMW S 1000 RR further towards the centre of the racing activities.
A bit of courage goes a long way. Which is why we have published a press release stating that wish to work our way up into the top teams over the course of the first year. And with this bike and its rider, we have very good chances. Certainly, the core data, as presented at the Intermot, are highly promising, and our works riders are very excited, as you would expect.
In the first week of November, they will be in Valencia, at the Superbike and Moto GP track, carrying out tests. The reactions we have received so far and the current test results have confirmed our decision and we are looking forward to seeing how things develop. Most of all, we are looking forward to our first contests with our competitors. And you?
